The Coordinator institution, Fondazione IRCCS – Istituto Nazionale Tumori (INT), was the first oncology centre in Italy, inaugurated in 1928: an accredited OECI (Organisation or European Cancer Institutes) member since 2013, INT constitutes a reference for cancer research and treatment in Italy and abroad.

The Epidemiology and Data Science department Research activity focuses on epidemiology and prevention through prospective epidemiological studies, case-control studies, and survival studies. INT coordinates national and international multicentre studies including European projects on rare tumours.

Activity includes organization and implementation of interventional prevention projects, management of related bio-banks, and hospital registry, creation of information networks based on data of population-based cancer registries, determining the causes of survival differences present between populations of the same or of different countries, production of health indicators, promotion of information on health and healthy lifestyles, knowledge distribution of cancer epidemiology.
